In other news, my ride to work (I carpool) forgot to share with me that she was flying out to Georgia last night. Yeah. Anyway, I'm stuck at home.

8 WEEKS TO VEGAS!

I've written and re-written a variety of snide comments here in regards to this article... in the end, though, I'm just saddened.

IT'S THE DEVIL!!

Saturday, January 14, 2006

Taking pictures of the moon on a camera phone is incredibly difficult. See below for examples.

The one on top is Michael's and, believe it or not, didn't turn out at all on his phone. Doesn't look too bad compared to mine, though.

Ten weeks to Vegas.

In other news: I can't get over how much I really enjoy my life here. Waking up to the fresh snow after a storm that comes through in the night fills me with exhilaration. The ice-cold air that hits my bare feet when it creeps in a door that wasn't shut all of the way makes me smile (and gasp!). Seeing the soft glow of the full moon reflected in the snow on the mountains is bliss. Driving home after work has become a pleasure instead of a chore. Speaking of chores, though, I really need to clean my house this weekend... and maybe go sledding. How many of you are going sledding this weekend? Huh?

You know, my ex-boss used to give me a hard time (jokingly, I hope) about moving to snow country. He told me to call him when I got the big clump of icky gray ice built up on my wheel wells. That's happened. Called him when it happened. Still can't help but love it. Maybe it's different when you've gone your whole life without real seasons... maybe it's just different for me. I can't wait to share it with my friends, though. March will be a good month. Well... as long as they get here before it turns in to mud season. I've been informed that with all of the snow we've gotten we're going to have one heck of a mud season this year. *wrinkles nose*

Stolen from ShadyLady...

10 reasons Gay Marriage is wrong:

1. Being gay is not natural. And as you know Americans have always rejected unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because, as you know, a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4. Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed. The sanctity of Britany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6. Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

My dog was sick this weekend. He apparently ate something that didn't agree with him. At first, I thought MAYBE it was the bacon we gave him Saturday morning but then we identified something in the god-awful mess (that was thankfully confined to the bathroom due to foreward thinking) that shouldn't have been there (no, we did NOT try to figure out what it was) and so my dog is now bacon safe... which makes me happy. There's nothing sweeter than having your dog do tricks for bacon. It's the ultimate motivator. BACON!

This morning I told someone dear to me that I'm a bad friend to him. I am, too. A good friend wouldn't post this wonderful picture. I had to, though. You all understand, right? *snickers*

Where I work. Yeah... I know.

Stupid warm weather making the snow melt into puddles that freeze at night. I slipped this morning on ice that LOOKED LIKE REGULAR GROUND! Now I have an owie on my knee the likes of which I haven't seen since third grade.

Sunday, January 1, 2006

It's been a long week. It's been pleasant, though. The weather is warming up a little and some of the snow is melting off. Weird to see green grass under the snow. It never occurred to me that the grass remained so green.

We went with the boys to see King Kong last night. I loved it. I loved it more when, at 10:45pm, we walked out of the small theater on Capitol to a still-busy small town. It's never busy here so the New Year bustle at the restaurant across the street was a little bit odd. We stopped to feel the snow flakes fall before we got all piled in to the car to drive the two blocks to our place. When there is snow on the ground we drive it. In the summer it's just a nice stroll down the street.

Broke down the Christmas tree today and put everything away... well, we're still putting everything away. It's depressing to see Christmas slip away but I'm so very excited about this coming year that it's hard to remain melancholy for any significant amount of time. David and Bianca will be here in March and Matt will start High School in August. Ian will escape the confines of Kindergarten and Zachary will be in school without his older brother for the first time ever. Oh, and best not to forget Ken's upcoming nuptials. So many exciting things to come!

And, because I'm me, I need to share this photo.

My poor dog must endure tortures to acquire this high-fashion look.
